NOV. 2016

Team working on Judy's site.  Thanks to Bill for the home made

bird boxes and everyone for tidying up and planting bulbs.

Next day out Thursday morning anyone wishing to help just turn up.

 

OCTOBER 2016

 

Over1000 bulbs planted in Brough

At the Yorkshire in Bloom Awards  we won first prize in the raffle, a 1000 bulbs from Lubbe & Sons of Spalding. And they offered to plant them for us.

A large automated planting machine arrived on 26th October and set to work on the area next to the beck that runs from Welton Road, Brough to Myrtle Way. We hope to see a fantasic display of crocuses and daffodils come the spring.

 

 

SEPT 2016

 

In Bloom Team celebrate their eighth Silver Gilt award

We did it! Our eighth Sliver Gilt Award in the 2016 Britain

in Bloom contest.

Big thanks to all our volunteers, helpers, supporters and

business sponsors.

Without your help we would never make it.

We also won 1000 bulbs to be planted in the community.

JULY 2016Had a Garden Party to thank all our In Bloom Members.

  1. Dave and Coleen painted bollards and weeded around the Green.

    • Judy and Phil put up  recycled fencing and painted it to stop balls spoiling the flowers and shrubs.  Phil donated his time and concrete.

    • Coleen Butler did some art work on Bet Freds Wall of 3 horses,  after Terry had base painted the wall.

    • Terry and Coleen Strimmed near the Parish Office.

    • East Riding of Yorkshire Council planted up Brough roundabout sponsored by Elan Hair Dressers.

    • 7 members worked on Brough Crossroads trimming hedges, painting and weeding and planting.

    • Linda and Coleen improved the beds at Jefferson Drive

    • Val and Dave worked on the wooded area and the cleaning up of the drain.  Collected more bark chippings and spread them.

    • Val and Dave planted up the rings on Humber Cresent.

    • Sue planted up the large planters on Beech Rd and Hunter Rd.

    • Ron and June planted up all around the Cenotaph after Town Council laid new lining and spread new gravel.

     

     

    JUNE 2016

    • Coleen Planted up hanging baskets for Brough Crossroads.

    • Adult Services painted boat and planters.

    • Planted up troughs near the Chemist.

    • Bob and Janet Craft tidy up beds at Spindlewood

    • EBIB Logo in WI Bus shelter painted by Paula  Brown

    • A Union Jack  of flowers  created in boat at Roman Landing

    • 3 members went to buy bedding plants.

    • Prepared the Green for planting up

    • Designed poster to let the public know the date of Judging.

    • Members tackle Brough Crossroads and Cenotaph area

    • Tesco's bid nearly ready to submit our second attempt.

    • Boat painted and planted up on Corranation Copse.

    • Bedding plants all ready to be planted in our 52 flower beds.

    • In Bloom QUIZ made £42-00 . Thanks to Tina at Cafe' Indulge

    • Tesco's bid submitted

    • Team worked weeding, Hedge cutting and planting at Brough Cross roads.

    • Went for more bark chippings to keep the weeds down.

    • Members worked on the 3 rings and the rockery at Elloughton

    • Made up 3 hanging baskets for outside the shops at Brough.

    • Put the Summer route together for Yorkshire in Bloom Judges.

    • Advertised our website on all the barrier planters.

    • Cut back all the daffodils at Spindlewood enterance.

    • Ordered Union Jack vynil for Roman Landing Boat,

     

     

     

     

    MAY 2016

     

    • Painting of the 2 donated boats Regal colours for the Queen's Birthday.

    • Adult Services paint recycled planters.

    • Sunflower and Parsley seeds sowed.

    • Sent Thank You card to Town Council for their cheque.

    • Members worked 3 hours on the site near the Ferry Inn.

    • Plants donated for wooded area.

    • Site visit took place with view to gaining a bid from Tesco's

    • East Riding Council provide over 100 bags of compost - photo above

     

    APRIL 2016

     

    • Recieved cheque from Town Council for £2,000

    • Unwins sent more Begonia's to prick out plea for more plant pots please

    • Grant given by The Atkinson Trust pays for a new circular seat planter for Elloughton Crossroadss, supplied by the Avocet Trust (Pictured top right)

    • Bought and delivered red paint for recycled planters for Adult Services to do.

    • Launched web site.

    • Welton Road, near Police station, new project nearly finished. Many hours spent here by 2 volunteers pruning, sawing branches, clearing, weeding, planting bulbs and planted the donated plants from residents.

    • New composed and bark chipping spread on area.

    • Drain cleaned up next to this site. Recycled log bench in installed. Thanks to Mr. & Mrs Record for donating the logs.

    • Elloughton volunteers worked on rockery and added sustainable plants.

     

     

     

    MARCH 2016

     

    • SNOWING -Coleen built a snowman with her Grand daughter.

    • Visited Ladybirds Children's Nursary to plant runner beans.

    • Secretary and Chairperson ordered summer plants from Unwins, Jersey Plants and some from a paper advert.

    • Visited Southwood garden centre at Cottingham for spring plants.

    • Members all very busy planting spring plants in all area's.

    • Visited Ladybirds again to see how the beans are growing and plant with another set of children some more.

    • Trimmed tree bottom branches to tidy up area.

    • In Bloom Meeting to discuss Atkinson Trust grant.

    • Prepared wildlife area on Centurion Way. Removed grass weeds and brambles. Dug over and built log pile for insects on pile of dead leaves. Prepared area and scattered wild flower seeds. Weeded and dug over boxes and small beds. Added Growmore to boxes and beds.

     

     

    FEBRUARY 2016

     

    • Planted up Lupin seeds.

    • Team worked on the 3 rings at Elloughton.

    • Attended Town Council Environment meeting to ask for fencing at Centurion Way. (To stop balls being kicked on to flowers bed)

    • 4 members drove to East Riding's site on Great Gutter lane to shovel. bark chippings into bags then spread it on some of our flower beds in the rain.

    • Got East Riding Council to move concrete planters to the Adult Centre for them to decorate and look after.

    • Recycling so the new planters could be delivered to the site.

    • Team of members went for more bark chippings and spread.

    • Notified that we had not been successful re Tesco's grant.

    • Dug over and weeded area on Dr Surgery side. Dug uo turf to repair dog damaged area.

    • Team of seven worked at Brough crossroads and cenotaph.

    JANUARY 2016

     

    • Applied for free seeds from RHS.

    • Took Photo's of snowdrops out early.

    • Ordered 2 Large planters from Amberol.

    • Received grant of £600 from Atkinson Trust.

    • Members worked on new project on Welton Road.

    • Tesco's bid deadline date requested goods value £8,000.

    • Centurion Way area pruned and tidied large flower bed.
